Unsafe lighters still sold in EU remain risk to children

Cigarette Lighters

3 years after an EC Decision to stop unsafe lighters from being sold in the EU, the vast majority of lighters sold still do not meet international safety standards. A recent study conducted by ProSafe found that 76% of lighters failed to meet the requirements of EN ISO 9994. Unsafe cigarette lighters cause deaths and injuries disproportionately to children. We urge the EU to take steps to better implement and enforce the legislation they approved in order to prevent further death and disability.
