First TACTICS Workshop Focuses on National Case Studies

TACTICS Workshop

On October 5-6, 2011, ECSA national partner from 27 countries met in Rome for the first TACTICS workshop, which highlighted one component of the initiative: the development of national case studies targeting 4 major injury areas (road, water, home and intentional injury). Each national partners is working on a case study that highlights the facilitators and barriers to adoption, implementation and monitoring of an example of evidence-based good practice in their country, whether successful or not.

The first workshop included presentation of case studies from nine countries and was valuable both in highlighting facilitators and barriers and in facilitating exchange of examples of evidence-based practices between countries. The case studies and discussions also touched on cross-cutting linkages with issues such as obesity or alcohol use, and examples addressing inequities. The final report on these studies, due following a second workshop in spring 2012, will provide policy makers with concrete examples and guidance on how to increase likelihood of success when adopting and implementing injury prevention measures.

Other central components of the TACTICS initiative include:

  • Child Safety Report Cards & Profiles and European Summary Report Card on Child Safety in all 27 EU Member States plus Croatia, Iceland, Israel, Norway and Switzerland. Report cards will for the first time include national policy actions related to intentional injury
  • Report on child injuries and inequity in the European Union
  • Child injury prevention good practice advocacy tools for three stages of childhood
  • Child Safety Index Score and Toolkit
  • Report on regional case studies from six countries examining facilitators and barriers to implementation of child injury prevention
  • Report on mapping responsibility for child injury in Europe (at EU, national and regional levels)
  • Progress report on Child Safety Action Plan development in all 27 EU Member States plus Croatia, Iceland, Israel, Norway and Switzerland
