World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2013
The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2013 will take place in Potsdam, Germany on October 20 - 22. The conference, which is held every second year, is a major international gathering of water safety experts. The 2011 conference included over 400 delegates from 50 countries. The European Child Safety Alliance will be participating in the conference, reviewing abstracts and serving as moderators.
Drowning is a major cause of death and disability worldwide and is the second most frequent cause of injury death to children 0- 19 years of age. Each year in the WHO European region, over 5000 children lose their lives to drowning. Most at risk are children 1 - 4 years of age. Yet there are many proven effective measures which can prevent drowning.
The WCDP2013 conference stream themes have been chosen to move the community forward in reducing the burden of drowning worldwide. Each area looks at the problem of drowning from a different but equally important perspective. The conference themes are detailed below:
- World Collaboration
