Frequently Asked Questions
Over the period of the TACTICS project, the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and answers will be updated and posted in this section of the TACTICS web pages. If you have a question regarding this project please let us know by contacting the project secretariat at secretariat@childsafetyeurope.org.
Why is the TACTICS project important?
- Addresses child injuries: the leading cause of child death, disability and inequalities in Europe
- Supports children's right to safety as agreed to by all Member States’ signed commitment to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
- Examines intentional and unintentional child injuries nationally and sub-nationally
- Supports the development and implementation of Child Safety Action Plans for Member States
- Is developing practical tools and resources to be used by Member States to support uptake of child safety policies based on evidenced good practice solutions
What age ranges will be included in the TACTICS project?
Children from 0 to 18 years of age will be included, following the UN definition for children. Categories for specific age ranges will be used in order to address age-specific risks and policies more closely.
Which are the six sub-national regions to be studied closer?
Specific regions have not yet been announced, but the regions will be in the following six countries: Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Spain and Sweden.
Which are the three new countries which will be for the first time developing child safety action plans as part of TACTICS?
Croatia, Romania, and Slovak Republic have begun the process, which will bring the total number of European countries developing child safety action plans to more than 25.
When approximately will the next set of Child Safety Report Cards be released? Will intentional injury be included?
Yes - we've estimating spring/summer 2012 for the release of the 2011 Child Safety Report Cards and we will be adding policies related to intentional injury. However comparison with previous years report cards will have to be done with the original questions.
Is each partner doing a national case study?
Yes, each country will make a presentation on its national case study, at the TACTICS National Case Studies Workshops, one to be held in the fall of 2011 and the other in the spring of 2012. Key findings of the case study presentations and discussion on facilitators/barriers to the uptake of evidence-based good practice will be summarised in a final report available in the fall of 2012.
Is "mapping responsibility for child safety" a new initiative?
The mapping responsibility for child safety will get more specifically at where decisions are made at the EU and national levels and in the six sub-national regions for diverse child injury issues. Some of the information gathering will be undertaken by the Country and Regional partners and will compliment what they have collected in the past to facilitate planning. But we have not reported on the various levels of responsibiity involved in determining child safety across multiple Ministries in the past, so the report will be ground breaking in terms of the work we have done.
I am not yet involved, but would like to consider whether I could be.
